I recently decided that the doctor I had been seeing for the past eighteen years was no longer providing the level of service I expected, and it was time to shop for a new doctor who would meet my requirements. I started out by making a list of what I disliked and what I wanted from the new doctor. The new doctor will:

1. Have experience

2. Be a graduate of a reputable medical school

3. Take time to meet with me

4. Answer questions thoroughly and clearly

5. Provide easy appointment scheduling

6. Have hours that meet my needs

7. Have nurses & staff that are knowledgeable, friendly and helpful

8. Have positive ratings and comments from current clients

Just as doctors specialize in specific areas of medicine, so too do agents specialize in specific areas of insurance. Therefore, selecting an insurance agent should be handled in much the same way as selecting your trusted doctor.

1. The agent is experienced in the lines of insurance you seek

2. Is he/she an Independent Agent

3. Has time to meet with you on YOUR schedule

4. Is willing to meet you at YOUR location

5. Is able to answer your questions

6. Asks questions to fully understand your business, what’s important to you (even in the same profession, no two businesses are alike, each has its own concerns)

7. Has YOUR best interests at heart, not their own

8. Doesn’t boast about how good they and their company are

9. Explains options and assists you in protecting your assets

10. Follows up with you throughout the policy period

11. Assists you with claims

Visit the agent’s website. Is it informative and helpful? Does it answer your questions and invite you to ask more? Understand what risks you face for fire, wind, theft, liability claims, work comp problems and other possible issues. Consider the settlement amounts, and where adjusting limits would be in your best interest and if the agent is able and willing to make adjustments. The last thing you want to do is settle for the lowest premium as this will always cost you in coverage. At The Kirvan Agency, LLC we believe it is imperative that you understand your coverages and options. Allow us to review your policy and provide you with an honest assessment, discover any gaps in coverage and provide you with recommendations.
